While You Were Sleeping
March 22 - May 10, 2025 at Studio 105: 1525 N. American St. Philadelphia
Studio 105 at Ray Philly is pleased to present “While You Were Sleeping” a solo exhibition of new works by Philadelphia-based oil painter Elizabeth Bergeland.
Elizabeth Bergeland (b.1983) merges figurative realism with surreal or imagined spaces. Always rich in symbolism, her recent work leans deeply personal, reflecting themes of connection, doubt, and the passage of time. In this exhibition, she presents scenes of surreal domesticity, inspired by the unrelenting pace of contemporary information systems. We run toward progress and never ask how we might be affected when we arrive. A meditation on contradiction, these works sit at the very center of Bergeland’s ongoing inner war — stretched tight between the desire for connection and the intense need for solitude.
